Silicone Additives for Wire & Cable: Processing Aids & Surface Modifiers
SILIKE provides silicone-based processing aids and surface modifiers for wire and cable compounds, helping manufacturers address extrusion challenges and improve cable surface performance. Common processing issues include high extrusion torque, elevated die pressure, poor dispersion of ATH/MDH flame-retardant fillers, die build-up, die drool, melt fracture, and fluctuations in extrusion output. These challenges are particularly significant in highly filled LSZH/HFFR compounds, where processability must be balanced with flame-retardant requirements and mechanical properties. Depending on the grade and formulation, SILIKE silicone processing aids can help improve melt flow, filler dispersion, and extrusion stability while reducing processing-related deposits.
For cable insulation and sheath/jacketing compounds, selected silicone-based surface modifiers can improve surface smoothness and slip, reduce the coefficient of friction (COF), and enhance abrasion resistance and scratch resistance.
These additives are suitable for a range of wire and cable materials, including LSZH/HFFR, silane-crosslinkable XLPE, low-smoke PVC, TPU, TPE, and rubber-based compounds. Applications include cable insulation and sheath/jacketing, small-diameter automotive wires and cables, and EV charging cables. SILIKE also offers silicone-based additives specifically developed for high-speed wire and cable extrusion.
