Description

Rubber compounds used in cable insulation and sheathing can present processing challenges associated with high compound viscosity, inadequate filler dispersion, and unstable extrusion flow. These factors may increase extrusion load, contribute to rough extruded surfaces, and affect dimensional consistency and production efficiency.

SILIKE SILIMER 6560 is a multifunctional modified silicone wax additive designed to improve filler dispersion and processing lubrication in compatible rubber and polymer systems. In suitable rubber cable formulations, it may help improve compound flow, reduce processing resistance, and support more stable extrusion and smoother surface finishes.

For rubber cable manufacturers, improved processing behavior may also contribute to more consistent extrusion quality and reduced equipment loading. The potential effect on die wear and maintenance requirements should be verified under the intended operating conditions. Performance depends on the rubber formulation, filler system, addition level, and processing parameters.

Applications

SILIMER 6560 can enhance the compatibility of pigments, filler powders, and functional additives with the resin system, maintaining a stable dispersion of powders throughout processing. Additionally, it reduces melt viscosity, lowers extruder torque and extrusion pressure, and improves overall processing performance with excellent lubricity. The addition of SILIMER 6560 also enhances the demolding properties of finished products, while improving surface feel and providing a smooth, premium texture.

Advantages

1) Higher filler content, better dispersion;

2) Improve the gloss and surface smoothness of products ( lower COF) ;

3) Improved melt flow rates and dispersion of fillers, better mold release and processing efficiency;

4) Improved color strength, no negative affect on mechanical properties;

5) Improve flame retardant dispersion thus providing a synergistic effect.

How to use

It is recommended to mix SIMILER 6560 with the formulation system in proportion and granulate before use.

When used for dispersion of flame retardants, pigments, or filler powders, the recommended addition amount is 0.5%~4% of the powder. When used for processing plastics that are sensitive to moisture, please dry at 120℃ for 2-4 hours.

Transportation & Storage

This product could be transported as non-hazardous chemical. It is recommended to be stored in a dry and cool area with a storage temperature below 40°C to avoid agglomeration. The package must be well sealed after each use to prevent the product from being affected by moisture.

Package & Shelf life

25KG/BAG. Original characteristics remain intact for 24 months from the production date if kept in recommend storage.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions About Silicone Processing and Dispersing Aids for Rubber Cable Compounds

1. What silicone additive can help improve filler dispersion in rubber cable compounds?

Rubber cable compounds containing reinforcing fillers and functional additives may experience difficulties with filler incorporation and uniform dispersion. SILIKE SILIMER 6560 is a modified silicone-based dispersing and processing aid that can be evaluated to improve filler distribution and mixing efficiency in compatible rubber formulations. Its effectiveness depends on the rubber system, filler characteristics, addition level, and mixing conditions.

2. How can processing aids improve compound flow and reduce extrusion resistance in rubber cables?

High compound viscosity and processing resistance can limit extrusion efficiency and contribute to unstable material flow. Modified silicone processing aids such as SILIMER 6560 may help improve processing lubrication and compound flow, potentially reducing extrusion load and supporting more stable production. Actual improvements should be assessed under the intended formulation and extrusion conditions.

3. How can surface roughness and extrusion defects be reduced in rubber cable sheathing?

Surface roughness and inconsistent extrusion quality can be associated with inadequate filler dispersion, compound rheology, and processing conditions. SILIMER 6560 may help improve compound flow and filler distribution, supporting smoother extruded surfaces in suitable rubber cable formulations. Comparative trials should evaluate surface appearance, extrusion stability, and dimensional consistency to determine the actual benefits.

4. Can modified silicone processing aids help reduce die wear in rubber cable extrusion?

Die wear may be influenced by abrasive fillers, compound composition, equipment materials, and operating conditions. SILIMER 6560 has been evaluated in rubber cable applications where improved processing flow and reduced die wear were reported. However, any reduction in die wear or maintenance requirements should be verified under the intended production conditions rather than assumed for all rubber formulations.

5. Will silicone dispersing additives affect the vulcanization of rubber cable compounds?

The effect of silicone additives on vulcanization depends on the rubber type, curing system, additive concentration, and processing conditions. SILIMER 6560 should be evaluated for compatibility with the intended vulcanization process. Cure characteristics, tensile strength, elongation, hardness, and other relevant cable properties should be verified using the final formulation.

6. How should the addition level of a silicone dispersing aid be determined for rubber cable compounds?

The appropriate addition level depends on the rubber formulation, filler type and loading, mixing process, and target performance. For SILIMER 6560, formulation-specific trials are recommended to establish a suitable dosage based on filler dispersion, compound flow, extrusion stability, and surface quality.

Manufacturers can share their rubber formulation, filler system, processing conditions, and performance requirements with SILIKE to discuss product suitability and sample evaluation.
