Description

SILIKE SILIMER 9701 is a PFAS-free and siloxane-free polymer processing aid masterbatch designed to improve the processability and extrusion performance of polyolefin resins. Unlike silicone-based PFAS-free PPAs, it provides an alternative processing aid chemistry for applications requiring both PFAS-free and silicone-free formulations. Its PE-carrier masterbatch format offers convenient incorporation into compatible polymer systems.

During extrusion, the functional components of SILIMER 9701 can migrate toward processing equipment surfaces, helping improve lubrication at the polymer–metal interface. This action helps reduce friction-related processing difficulties, improve resin fluidity, and minimize material deposits on the screw, barrel, filter screen, and die head. By helping control deposit formation and processing instability, SILIMER 9701 may support longer continuous production runs and reduced cleaning-related downtime.

SILIMER 9701 is also developed to help minimize melt fracture and sharkskin defects while improving extrudate surface smoothness and gloss. Importantly, it is designed to improve extrusion processability while maintaining the resin's physical properties and supporting downstream bonding, printing, and heat-sealing performance.

Application areas

SILIMER 9701 is designed for polyolefin processing and extrusion applications, including PE blown film extrusion, general extrusion, monofilament and fiber production, pipe and profile extrusion, sheet extrusion, and selected wire and cable applications. It can be evaluated in compatible formulations where improved melt flow, reduced die build-up, and better extrudate surface appearance are required. Application suitability depends on the base resin, PE carrier compatibility, formulation, and processing conditions.

Typical benefits

1. Improved Melt Flow & Processability

Helps improve melt flow and processing performance in polyolefin formulations, supporting smoother and more stable extrusion.

2. Reduced Processing Torque & Melt Fracture

Helps reduce extrusion torque and minimize melt fracture, potentially reducing film breakage under suitable processing conditions.

3. Reduced Material Deposits & Longer Production Runs

Helps reduce material accumulation and carbonized deposits on the screw, barrel, filter screen, and die head, potentially extending continuous production runs, reducing cleaning frequency, and minimizing downtime.

4. Improved Surface Quality & Gloss

Helps improve extrudate surface quality, minimize sharkskin defects, and enhance surface smoothness and gloss.

5. Maintained Resin Properties & Downstream Performance

Designed to improve processing performance without adversely affecting the resin's physical properties or the finished product's bonding, printing, and heat-sealing performance.

6. PFAS-Free & Silicone-Free PPA Alternative

Provides a PFAS-free and silicone-free processing aid solution for manufacturers seeking alternatives to conventional fluorinated PPAs.

How to use

SILIMER 9701 can be premixed with resin pellets, masterbatches, powders, or other formulation materials before processing, or incorporated at an appropriate dosage during masterbatch production.

The general recommended addition level is 1–5 wt%, based on the total formulation weight and adjusted according to the polymer composition and processing requirements.

For applications focused on improving processing lubricity, reducing die build-up, or evaluating alternatives to fluorinated PPAs, an initial trial dosage of 2–5 wt% is recommended.

These addition levels refer to SILIMER 9701 masterbatch rather than the concentration of its active processing aid component. The optimum dosage should be determined through application-specific trials, considering the polymer formulation, extrusion conditions, and target performance requirements.

Transportation & Storage

This product could be transported as non-hazardous chemical. It is recommended to be stored in a dry and cool area with a storage temperature below 50°C to avoid agglomeration. The package must be well sealed after each use to prevent the product from being affected by moisture.

Package & Shelf life

The standard packaging is a craft paper bag with PE inner bag with net weight of 25kg.Original characteristics remain intact for 24 months from the production date if kept under the recommended storage conditions.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions About PFAS-Free & Silicone-Free PPA Masterbatch for Polyolefin Extrusion | SILIMER 9701

1. What if my formulation requires a PFAS-free PPA without silicone or siloxanes?

Not all PFAS-free polymer processing aids are silicone-free. Some use silicone-based chemistry, which may not meet formulations with specific silicone or siloxane restrictions.

SILIMER 9701 offers a PFAS-free and siloxane-free PPA masterbatch option for such applications. Its suitability should be evaluated against the customer's chemical specifications, polymer formulation, and extrusion performance requirements.

2. Can SILIMER 9701 be used in PE blown film, PP extrusion, and other polyolefin applications?

SILIMER 9701 uses polyethylene (PE) as its carrier and is designed for compatible polyolefin extrusion applications, including PE blown film, monofilaments, fibers, pipes, profiles, and sheets.

3. What is the recommended dosage of SILIMER 9701, and how should it be added?

The general recommended addition level is 1–5 wt%. For initial evaluations focused on improving processing lubricity, reducing die build-up, or replacing fluorinated PPAs, 2–5 wt% is recommended.

SILIMER 9701 can be premixed with compatible raw materials before extrusion or incorporated during masterbatch production. These percentages refer to the SILIMER 9701 masterbatch as supplied, based on total formulation weight. The optimum dosage should be confirmed through production trials.

4. Can SILIMER 9701 directly replace my existing fluoropolymer-based PPA?

SILIMER 9701 can be evaluated as a PFAS-free and silicone-free alternative, but it should not be assumed to be a direct drop-in replacement for every fluorinated PPA.

For a meaningful comparison, maintain consistent resin formulations and extrusion conditions, allowing for appropriate purging and process stabilization. Key parameters include melt fracture clearance, die build-up over time, extrusion pressure, processing torque, and final product quality.

5. Will SILIMER 9701 affect film printing, lamination, or heat-sealing performance?

SILIMER 9701 is designed to improve extrusion processability while maintaining resin physical properties and supporting downstream printing, bonding, and heat-sealing performance.

For applications with specific converting requirements, comparative testing is recommended to assess print adhesion, lamination bond strength, heat-seal strength, coefficient of friction (COF), and other relevant film properties.

6. Should I choose SILIMER 9701 PPA masterbatch or SILIMER 9700 active processing aid?

The choice depends on the formulation requirements and preferred additive incorporation method.

SILIMER 9701 is a PE-carrier masterbatch suited to compatible extrusion processes where a pre-formulated additive format is preferred.

SILIMER 9700 is supplied in active additive form, offering greater formulation flexibility for compounders and masterbatch manufacturers.

Selection should consider carrier compatibility, effective processing aid concentration, feeding requirements, processing conditions, and targeted extrusion performance.
